Help with Sano

Sano. learn languages through play. Help with the current English and Nepali activities on the website and in separately built mobile apps.

Get in touch

For support or privacy questions, email sanolearnnepali@gmail.com. Do not send a child’s name, voice recordings or drawings.

Tell Samir which device you use, whether you opened the website or a separately supplied app, which language was selected and what happened. A brief description of the screen and button is enough.

Email opens your email app. Sano does not automatically attach learner records or diagnostics. The installed app is the planned release; browser-preview instructions below are only for development testing.

Sound, pictures and speaking

I cannot hear Sano, or a picture is missing

Check the device volume and whether sound is going to headphones or another speaker. Open the grown-up area and check Voice and Quiet play. The welcome screen and initial language choice are intentionally silent; the chosen companion says hello when selected.

On the website, connect to the internet and allow the page’s pictures and recordings to finish loading. If you saved an offline edition, reopen Sano after the download finishes. A first visit or a new recording may take longer than a repeat visit.

If the problem continues, leave the activity and open it again. Please report the affected picture or phrase and chosen companion. Clearing all browser data is not a first troubleshooting step because it can erase saved progress.

Why does Speak work differently on the website?

The website preview offers listen-and-repeat practice without using the microphone. Adding the website to a Home Screen does not turn it into the separately built phone app.

The native iPhone, iPad and Android build includes on-device speaking practice. After the grown-up step and microphone permission, it listens only when Speak is tapped. It stops after a short capture or when you cancel or leave. The practice recording and recognised words are not saved or uploaded.

Recognition can miss a clearly spoken word, particularly with young voices or background noise. A retry does not mean a child pronounced it badly. Listen and practise together; this is not a pronunciation assessment or an open conversation.

The microphone was refused

In a native build, a grown-up can check Sano’s microphone permission in the device settings and enable it if they want to use speaking practice. Then return to the activity. Other learning activities can still be used without microphone access.

The website does not request microphone permission. Changing browser microphone settings will not enable native speaking practice there.

How do I stop the sound or listening?

Leave the activity or close the app to stop the current guidance or listening session. Where a speaking exercise shows a cancel control, use it to stop that attempt. Turn on Quiet play in the grown-up sound settings to mute Sano’s playback.

Offline play and saved downloads

Can we play without Wi-Fi?

Website: while connected, open the grown-up area, expand Offline play and choose Save for offline play. Keep that screen open until it says the download is saved, then choose Reopen Sano. An incomplete download is not a complete offline edition.

Native build: lessons, pictures, recordings and the speaking model are included in the separately supplied app. Installation and updates are separate from the website’s offline download. Actual-device offline checks are still part of this playtest.

This help page contains its answers without running scripts. It can be read without a connection when it is included in the saved website edition. Links to pages not already saved may need a connection.

Can I clear downloaded files without losing progress?

In the website’s Offline play section, choose Remove offline download. This removes saved pictures, recordings and app files while keeping learning progress and settings. Connect and save again before expecting a complete offline session.

A browser’s Clear site data option is different: it can also remove progress. Browsers may remove downloads when device storage is low. Removing a Home Screen shortcut alone may not remove the website’s saved data.

Progress, exports and deletion

Where are our stars and coins saved?

Progress, settings and earned rewards stay with the learner on this device. This edition has no child account or automatic progress transfer between devices. Another browser or a separately installed app has its own saved place.

Clearing browser/app storage, removing an app or a device reset can remove the saved place. Sano has no remote recovery service. Scribble drawings and names are temporary and are not part of saved progress.

How do I view or export a learning summary?

Open the grown-up area and choose Progress and stars. On the website, choose Export this learning summary to download the earlier check summary. In the native app, choose Share learning summary, then confirm where to share it.

This summary is not a full progress backup or a way to restore stars on another device. It leaves out names and drawings. Anyone you share a copy with can read and keep it; deleting inside Sano cannot erase that copy.

How do I delete local learning records?

For just the earlier check summary, use its delete option in Progress and stars. This keeps topic stars and the learning path.

For the selected learner’s saved progress and rewards, choose Delete local learning progress and confirm. On the website this is under Privacy and help in the grown-up area. In the native app it appears after opening Progress and stars. Both linked English and Nepali course profiles are removed for that learner. Other learners and app preferences are kept.

To remove all local website or app data, use the browser or device’s storage controls. Downloaded exports and device backups are separate copies. Read the privacy notice’s storage and deletion explanation before removing data you want to keep.

Languages, coins and play settings

How do I change the voice or the words on screen?

The EN / नेपाली buttons change screen text. The flag buttons change spoken guidance. They are separate choices. English guidance plays English first, then Nepali; Nepali guidance uses Nepali instructions. Learning words keep their own pronunciation. Choosing Boy Sano or Girl Sano changes the companion and matching recordings.

First choose your Sano companion, then what to learn: English or Nepali. Then choose the spoken guidance language. Screen text starts in English. Its EN / नेपाली switch is available from the companion screen after Let’s Play and keeps your choice through setup. Use Change language above the topics to change courses. Learning words and letters stay in their course language, independently of the surrounding instructions. Stars stay separate for each course; earned coins and unlocked extras are shared by the same learner.

Why is a tile blurred or locked?

Within an ordered topic, finish the available step to open the next one. Previously completed steps can be replayed. Tapping a locked step explains what is needed.

Rainbow pencil, Talk to Sano and Sano Adventures start locked. A grown-up can unlock each with five coins earned through play. Future language courses remain unavailable in this edition.

No real-money purchases are active. A Buy coins button may show that buying is unavailable; it does not take a payment. There is no subscription or child account to cancel.

Can we have less sound or movement?

Open the grown-up area to change voice, sound effects, Quiet play or Less movement. Available device accessibility settings can also reduce motion. Use whichever feels comfortable, and take a break whenever you like.
