Privacy policy & help

Updated 12 October 2026

Sano. learn languages through play. Sano is created and owned by Samir Sharma and currently offers English and Nepali learning on the website and in separately built mobile apps. This notice describes the development app and its local data controls. The support and public privacy contact is sanolearnnepali@gmail.com. The legal publisher and final store-policy pages still need to be confirmed. The browser preview is a development tool, not the planned app-store release.

A simple explanation for children

Your play stars stay on this device. Your scribbles disappear when you leave. The microphone starts off. A grown-up can turn it on, then you can tap Practice together so Sano can listen to a word on a supported device. Sano does not save your voice or send it to a server.

Learning through play

Sano keeps a small learning summary on this device by default. It records concept IDs, course, difficulty, visit IDs, times and whether practice was guided or a picture was matched with or without help. It does not retain microphone audio, recognised words or raw answers. Grown-ups can pause, export or delete this summary in Progress and stars. Deleting a learner also deletes their observations. Records are limited to 180 days and the latest 400 per learner, trimmed when the app next runs.

Occasional picture matches are optional, with no timer or lost rewards. An independent match means a correct first choice without a revealed picture. Remembered later means an independent match on a later visit, at least 24 hours after the last recorded practice or model exposure for that concept. Speaking results remain guided practice, not pronunciation scores. These observations describe performance in Sano; they do not prove mastery or measure a child’s overall ability.

What stays on your device

Sano saves a local learner identifier, settings, activity results, topic stars and learning-path history, including practice times. These help resume play and show a grown-up what has been explored. English and Nepali learning progress are stored separately in linked local learner profiles. Earned coins and unlocked extras are shared between that learner’s courses. Deleting the learner removes both linked course profiles. This version has no Sano progress server or automatic cross-device progress sync.

The Boy Sano or Girl Sano choice saves only the selected cartoon appearance on this device. Anyone can choose either companion. It does not record the player’s sex or gender, change their voice language, or change learning progress.

The current child flow does not ask for a real name, date of birth, email, phone number or location. Older learner spaces may retain previously entered profile details until deleted. Local storage in the website and app storage in the native build keep preferences and progress. People with access to your device may be able to view these records.

This edition has no advertising, marketing analytics, child account, open chat or real-money checkout. Lessons, recordings, the speech recognition model and learning data are held locally in the native app. Coin icons represent earned play rewards; any future paid features are unavailable until a separate release enables them.

Scribble, tracing and learning summaries

Scribble has optional own-name, mum’s-name and dad’s-name prompts. Names exist only as temporary ink. Strokes, pictures and grown-up red/green marks are not saved, exported or uploaded. Tracing uses the current stroke to check the activity and discards the raw drawing when you leave; it may save an activity result, not a drawing history. No remote handwriting AI is used.

Earlier optional check summaries may still contain task IDs, practice times, first-answer observations and grown-up review outcomes. They are available to view, export or delete. Current Scribble does not add results to those summaries. Stars and results describe practice, not a diagnosis, developmental assessment or proof of mastery.

Voice, sound and guidance

Sano plays recordings made in advance, including owner-supplied English and Nepali recordings and earlier provider-made lesson recordings. Fixed lesson text, not children’s microphone audio, was used for these voices. Playback does not contact ElevenLabs, CAMB or another voice-generation service. Recordings are bundled in the native app and included in the website’s optional offline download. Provider voice models are not included; applicable recording and voice licences still apply.

Screen text defaults to English. The EN / नेपाली text toggle is available from the companion screen onwards and keeps your choice through setup. First choose your Sano companion, then what to learn: English or Nepali. Choose spoken guidance after that. English guidance plays English first, then Nepali; Nepali guidance uses Nepali instructions. Learning targets retain their own pronunciation and all speech uses the selected companion. During play, Change language chooses the learning course, the EN / नेपाली pill changes screen text, and the flag changes spoken guidance. These three choices are separate; learning words stay in the chosen course language. Launch and spoken-guidance selection are silent. On Choose Sano, the selected companion greets in English when screen text is English, and in Nepali when screen text is Nepali. Changing the text toggle on that screen replays the selected companion’s greeting. Choosing spoken guidance remains a separate step. Boy Sano uses the available boy recordings and Girl Sano uses the girl recordings; a missing clip does not substitute the other voice. Device volume and the grown-up sound controls adjust playback.

Offline speaking practice

The microphone preference starts off, including during paid-feature testing. A grown-up can enable it in Sound and motion or through the speaking-practice grown-up gate. This preference is saved on the device, but changing it does not start listening or request operating-system microphone permission. Each attempt starts only after a deliberate Practice together tap and any required permission. Native iOS and Android use the bundled multilingual Whisper speech model. Up to eight seconds of audio is processed in temporary memory on this device, then discarded. Turning microphone access off, cancelling, leaving the screen or backgrounding the app stops capture. Sano does not save, export or send audio or transcripts to a service.

The app matches the recognised word or an explicitly accepted sentence against the chosen exercise, then plays local feedback when that companion’s recording is available. The selected learning course determines the exercise language; spoken guidance is a separate choice. Letters, numbers and word topics are included. No voiceprint, speaker identity, emotion inference or pronunciation score is produced.

The browser preview offers optional recognition only when the browser can explicitly guarantee on-device processing and reports that the selected learning language model is already available. Sano does not download a browser speech model automatically and does not fall back to cloud recognition. Unsupported browsers, missing language models and denied permission retain listen-and-repeat shared practice. The browser does not run the native Whisper engine. We practised together records participation only, never a recognised answer or speech grade.

In normal access mode, Talk to Sano starts locked. A grown-up can unlock all seven bundled speaking topics for five coins earned through play. Rainbow pencil also uses five earned coins to unlock. Sano Adventures offers three free rounds shared across a learner’s English and Nepali courses, followed by an optional permanent grown-up unlock for five earned coins. Starting a solo round or one family match uses one free round. Current testing access opens these features without using free rounds or spending coins. Access stays with the learner on this device; deleting that learner removes the unlocks. Older speaking-topic unlocks are honoured. No real-money payment is taken.

Speaking practice limits

Recognition can miss clear speech or produce words that were not said, especially with young children, isolated letters, accents and background noise. A retry is not evidence of poor pronunciation. This is practice feedback, not a language assessment, developmental assessment or proof of mastery. Samir has confirmed his pronunciation review of the English and Nepali recordings. Recognition accuracy, sound behaviour and microphone controls still need testing on physical devices. Free conversation is not part of this edition.

Coins and rewards

One coin is earned for each newly credited topic star. A completed mountain running or flying level can credit up to twelve collected coins. Each course has twelve levels in each mode; replaying a level awards only an improved coin total up to that limit. The local learner record keeps credited reward IDs, permanent unlocks and the rainbow-pencil setting. Earlier mountain-stop rewards remain credited by their stop ID. Replaying or resetting the same rewards does not grant duplicate coins. Deleting the learner also deletes their coins and unlocks. These are device-local play rewards, not cash or purchased entitlements.

There is no checkout or online parent wallet in this edition. Play coins and unlocked rewards stay on this device and are not bought, transferred or exchanged for money.

Adventure playtest

Sano Adventures opens from Choose what to play. Running and flying have separate completed levels, collected-coin records and personal best scores for each learning course, saved with the learner on this device. The shared free-round counter is saved when a round starts. Leaving an unfinished round does not earn coins or complete a level; returning starts that round again. Earlier trail progress is retained separately. Family mountain challenges compare two temporary players on the same device; their current match scores are not uploaded or saved after leaving. This is not live online multiplayer. Deleting the learner removes their saved Adventure progress and trial counter. There is no real-money checkout or cash reward.

The companion uses the same local appearance preference as the rest of Sano. Recorded task guidance follows the chosen voice language. New story captions are visual and can be read by a grown-up; this prototype is not a fully narrated story.

Family play and deliberate sharing

Family challenges use temporary Dog and Cat players on one device, or manually exchanged question and result codes. A code describes a round or score, not a person. It does not connect devices live or create a friend account. Current challenge rounds, entered codes and scores are not uploaded or saved by this feature; they disappear when you leave or reload.

Anyone given a result code can read its score. A learning-summary export happens only when a grown-up chooses it: the web downloads a file, and the native app asks before opening the device share chooser. The summary omits profile names, profile IDs and drawings. Recipients and other apps may keep shared copies; deleting inside Sano cannot remove those copies.

Keeping, exporting and deleting data

Learning-path records, topic stars and preferences remain locally until you delete them or the browser or device clears them. Earlier check summaries are limited to the latest 200 results per learner and up to 180 days, trimmed when Sano next opens or saves. The app cannot erase expired records while it is closed.

In the grown-up area, open Progress and stars to view or export earlier summaries, delete a check summary, or reset a completed topic’s stars. Deleting a check summary keeps topic stars and the learning path. A confirmed topic-star reset keeps other topics, course history and other learners.

Delete local learning progress removes the selected learner’s saved records and check results, after confirmation. Other learners and app preferences are kept. To remove all website storage, use your browser’s site-data controls. To remove native app data, use the operating system’s app-data or deletion controls where available. Removing a Home Screen shortcut alone may not clear website data.

Device or browser backups, downloaded exports and hosting logs are outside the local delete button. Use the relevant device, backup or provider controls for those copies. This version does not offer a remote child-data recovery service.

Remove offline download deletes only Sano’s saved website assets. It keeps local learning progress and settings. Browser Clear site data controls may remove both assets and progress. Updating a saved edition downloads files from Sano’s website; an interrupted download does not replace a previously complete edition.

App distribution, preview pages and providers

Sano is being prepared for native iPhone, iPad and Android distribution. The installed learning app does not need the browser preview host. The existing public playtest has used ChatGPT Sites: opening that website sends ordinary connection information, including IP address and requested URLs, to its hosting infrastructure; device/browser details and request times may also be processed. Sites documents automatic visitor and page-view measurement and excludes child-directed use below its stated age threshold. It is not the planned distribution channel for Sano. Public privacy and support information pages are a separate app-store requirement.

The native learning app includes its recordings, pictures, fonts and speech model. Its learning code has no active payment SDK, cloud speech service or live AI connection, and over-the-air updates are disabled. The website needs an initial connection: a grown-up can save its complete offline download, then reopen Sano to use that saved edition. Browser storage can be cleared or evicted. Review of the complete signed app, bundled third-party libraries, device traffic and airplane-mode behaviour remains necessary; a source-code check alone does not establish every library’s data practices.

The final public privacy/support page provider, logging, retention, processing countries and any international-transfer safeguards still need confirmation. These information pages are separate from the installed app. Native learning can run without them once the app is installed. Source checks cannot promise the complete signed app or email providers process no personal data.

If you email sanolearnnepali@gmail.com, your email address, message and any device or problem details you choose to include are handled through Gmail to respond to you. The app does not automatically attach learner records, drawings, voice recordings or diagnostics. Please do not send children’s personal information. Support correspondence is separate from local play data; its final retention and account-provider arrangements must be documented before release.

Child privacy and safe use

The grown-up calculation is a navigation barrier. It does not verify identity, encrypt stored records or provide legally verified parental consent. Keep device access and backups secure. Do not send children’s names, recordings or drawings when giving playtest feedback.

Use short, comfortable sessions and celebrate effort. There are no missed-day penalties. Reduced motion follows available accessibility settings. The app is an educational activity, not a medical, developmental or professional assessment.

External reference links leave Sano and need an internet connection. Those organisations apply their own privacy practices. Unavailable language packs are labelled Not in this edition and cannot be purchased.

Your rights and questions

Depending on applicable law, you or your child may have rights to information, access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and a portable copy, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Conditions and exceptions vary. Local controls help with device records; they do not resolve requests about information held by a hosting provider.

For support or privacy questions, email sanolearnnepali@gmail.com. This address was designated by Sano’s owner. Do not send a child’s name, voice recording, drawing or identity document. The legal publisher and postal correspondence details remain to be confirmed before release.

You may also contact the relevant privacy regulator. UK families can contact the ICO, EU/EEA families their national data-protection authority, US families the FTC for children’s online privacy concerns, and Australian families the OAIC. Local complaint processes and eligibility apply.

You can ask about access, correction or deletion, or raise a data-protection complaint, at that email address. Briefly describe what happened and whether it concerns an installed app or a preview page. A complaint and a data-rights request have separate response requirements. Local app records cannot be retrieved or deleted remotely through email.

Privacy in the UK, USA, Australia, UAE and other countries

UK: the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, relevant device-storage rules and the ICO Children’s Code require an assessment of actual processing and child safeguards. The notice must explain the operator, purposes, lawful bases, recipients, retention, rights and relevant transfers. A parent gate alone does not satisfy these obligations.

EU/EEA: GDPR transparency and data-subject rights apply where its territorial scope is met. Children need suitable safeguards and clear explanations. Parental-consent rules depend on the activity, lawful basis and country; Sano does not use the calculation gate as consent.

USA: COPPA covers certain child-directed online services and collection from children under 13, including some persistent identifiers. Its amended Rule’s general compliance deadline was 22 April 2026. Any covered collection needs an assessment of notice, parental consent or a specific exception, security and retention. A local-only speech feature does not resolve separate website hosting or SDK collection. State requirements may also apply.

Canada: federal or provincial privacy law may apply depending on the operator and activity. The federal privacy regulator generally expects parental or guardian consent where a child cannot meaningfully consent, usually including children under 13. Provincial rules can differ. Sano’s intended Canadian distribution, actual processing and consent arrangements must be reviewed before release there.

Australia: Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles coverage must be assessed for the operator. Relevant obligations include transparent policies, secure handling, access, correction and complaints. On 10 October 2026, the OAIC describes the Children’s Online Privacy Code as being finalised, with registration due by 10 December 2026; it must be rechecked before release.

UAE, including Dubai: federal data-protection and child-digital-safety requirements need to be assessed for services directed to UAE users. Official child-safety guidance describes explicit, verifiable parental consent and easy withdrawal for covered processing of under-13s’ personal data. An educational label or a maths gate is not proof of an exemption or valid consent. Applicable implementing rules and any separate free-zone regime must be checked for the actual operator and activity.

Nepal: the Privacy Act 2075 protects personal and family information and restricts collection, use and disclosure. Its provisions address guardian involvement and the child’s benefit for certain under-18 disclosures. Sano’s actual connection with Nepal and the rules applying to a private learning app must be established; this notice does not invent GDPR-style rights under Nepali law. Local deletion and privacy controls remain available.

India: the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and 2025 Rules have phased commencement. As checked on 10 October 2026, the substantive child-processing provisions were scheduled to commence later; they must not be described as already fully effective. Sano’s preparation includes minimisation, parent-facing information and no targeted advertising. Current applicable law, the commencement timetable and any permitted exceptions must be checked before distribution; an educational label is not an automatic exception.

Brazil: the LGPD and the ECA Digital framework require a child-focused assessment. ECA Digital is in force in 2026 and reaches covered services offered to or likely to be accessed by children in Brazil, including overseas providers. Appropriate lawful grounds, child interests, parental safeguards, rights, international transfers and the required Brazilian legal representation must be resolved before a Brazilian release. No local representative or country approval is claimed here.

Other countries: these safeguards and links do not certify worldwide compliance. Additional national or state privacy, children’s protection, consumer and app-store rules may apply. The operator must review each intended release territory and complete the notice before distributing there.

Notice updates and release status

This notice was updated on 11 October 2026 and describes the current public playtest and native development build. It will be updated before any new collection, online social feature or payment system is introduced. Where a change needs notice or consent, that step must happen before the changed processing.

The public privacy contact is confirmed above. Legal publisher details, final policy/support page arrangements, support retention, legal bases, applicable child-consent procedures, release SDK and traffic checks, and country-specific review remain open. A published privacy page is not a guarantee of legal compliance or Apple or Google approval.
